I got the impression it was more about Mike thinking they were trying to replace Eleven. But also he's just kind of an angry dude who doesn't seem to like very many people. It probably is a little about her being a girl because of their age, but I think he would have been a jerk to anyone new they tried to bring into the group.

That's what I got too, and even Eleven's jealousy to me didn't seem romantically instigated but more that Mike and the gang were her first friends and she felt like her spot was being taking?

This was how I saw it too. He was clearly still missing her a lot and I think that bringing a new person into the group (especially because Max was also a girl) put him on the defensive in feeling that they were just trying to replace Eleven.
