Hee! Thank you! I had it in my sleep, and it probably isn't something I would have thought of while awake, but you know what? I like my little idea! (Someone here said they're actually going to write it! And they're really good at handling the subject!)

And yes, wangst is evil! Down with wangst, up with actual intelligent and well-written struggle! I mean, I love reading sad things, and the first thing I do when I'm actually interested in reading fic for something is to look for the best angsty fic I can find for my favorite character... But some of those things are so over the top that I can't read them without laughing! And when you're sitting down to read something sad, all set to get misty or at least feel pleasantly down for a while, laughing at the stuff is a total buzzkill!

Laughing? I get more like annoyed/irritated. Most notably, when they come up with a dramatic premise hardly related to the plotline. Such as "ITS, half of the cast is dead!".
I feel like they're just putting in a shocking/edgy concept to hide the fact they suck at making less overblown stuff interesting.

Yes, that too! I hate it when they just make everyone all mopey just so they can make a story dramatic. If you want to go that route, why not take a character who's dysfunctional to begin with and expand on their private lives a little? (Which is why Itoshiki was a great example! A decent writer could just play his issues straight instead of for laughs, and end up with something sad and lovely. Unfortunately, not enough people do that.)

Oh, I know! He's like, a goldmine. The fic for that series is all too damn comedy-centric. Which is seriously weird, because I've seen very fluffy comedy shows without a hint of seriousness angsted to hell and back. But then we get a comedy with an extremely dark protagonist, where writing something depressing would actually work... Nothing! Or rather, next to nothing, but still not the motherload I was expecting.

Thanks a lot for the offer, but I'm a little shy about IMing people, especially here, because... Well, who knows who would find out? XD But I've really been genuinely enjoying this conversation! Seriously! Ever since I had that dream, I've been itching to talk to someone about this, and it feels really, really good to get it out and discuss!
