I agree. Harry/Ginny is just... nice. They're both a little bland but they also make sense together to me.

Annerb's fic is good for this. (I haven't really read any H/G but hers so apologies if this is a really obvious comment.)

It was okay in the books. Fell totally flat in the films for me.

I'm the exact opposite. I love their dynamics in the movies because I thought we see Ginny moving around more in them, but then again it's been ages since I saw the movies or read the books so I might be remembering things wrong.

Yeah, I found Movie!Ginny more likeable than the book version who's more 'I'm not a regular girl, I'm a Cool Girl!'

I just think their relationship was never properly set up. I always had a feeling that it was coming but by the time Harry first shows any interest in her it still felt too abrupt, and then it sorta falls to the wayside in favor of the actual plot of the books.

Then again, I think Rowling is just not that good at writing that sort of thing. Not Rowling bashing or anything, I still like the books, I just don't think she did a good job on this particular part of them.

I just don't think Rowling can write romance, at all. Even the married couples (James/Lily, Arthur/Molly for example) fell flat for me.

that celebrity crush aspect has always been my problem with the ship

like she's not in love with harry potter, the person; she's in love with the boy who lived, the legend, the story, the myth

I shipped Harry/Ginny before book five, when Ginny was written as very much a background character that had her own things to do. But book five tried a little too hard to make Ginny sound perfect, which was already a little awkward, and also introduced Luna who I just liked more. And then book six made her previous dates about making Harry jealous and that was just too much for me. Which is unfortunate, because this is another case of 'I shipped it until it was canon and then I hated it' that happens way too often for me and I don't know why.
