One of the biggest Twelve fans I know loves Jodie. There are people out there who were heartbroken losing their fave but still want to watch the show. Maybe they're drowned out by the vocal minority but I find a lot of Doctor Who spaces have regularly descended into shouting matches (and not just recently) so perhaps there are fans like me who just don't really comment on anything anymore.

I'm one of those fans who doesn't really comment in Doctor Who spaces. I love both Twelve and Thirteen and just want to have a meaningful discussion about the show, not just rant about which one's better.

same, on all counts.

I'm pretty sure it will be the ratings that shut down the fans. Doctor Who even lost the Christmas slot this year. Not a good sign :(

Oh for goodness sake. The show is not dying. People are still watching. Doctor Who didn't lose the Christmas slot. They chose to make a New Years special as a fitting symbol of a new era of Doctor Who.

The 12th doctor himself ruined Doctor Who, tbh. He was always so goddamn grouchy and unlikable I couldn't bring myself to watch any of his episodes. I've only seem a bit of the new one so far, but at least she's fun and charming.

You not liking a particular Doctor does not equal the show being ruined. Lots of people liked 12, lots of people watched 12, and the show continued on and continues on.

I mean. If I can't watch/enjoy a show anymore, that classifies it as being ruined for me. Other people disagreeing with me doesn't change that.

that classifies it as being ruined for me

Key words being 'for me'. You no longer got enjoyment from this show, and that's cool. The show itself was not ruined. The history of DW was not ruined. Nor was the future of DW ruined when a new Doctor came along.

I'm cool with people not liking certain Doctors. A lot of it comes down to preference, and that's a huge varying field. But acting like the whole show is ruined because YOU no longer find it enjoyable to watch is stupid.

This.

Ah, I always figure the "for me" is silent-but-implied when people make claims like that, unless they're like, actively insulting the fans while they're saying it.

AYRT

I mean it probably should be, but in my experience it's usually followed by such vitriol that they're making it clear that the whole THING is ruined by [insert thing here], not that they just don't/can't get enjoyment from it anymore.

Yup. That phrase I see most often by people who don't think they mean "for me" or that their thoughts are their opinion. They genuinely believe that their opinions are fact and the thing has been ruined forever objectively.

EVERY fandom of a given Doctor bitches about the one who succeeds their fave. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some geezers out there who back in the day *deeply resented* the "clownish" Patrick Troughton taking over from William Hartnell...

I absolutely loved Twelve, but I'm liking Thirteen very much and the different vibe the show has. It would've been very weird for the show to have the same vibe since Twelve and Thirteen are so different. I tend to tune out the people who have nothing meaningful to contribute to a discussion except to say that Thirteen and her companions suck. They just suck the fun out of fandom.

This happens every. single. regeneration. The very nature of the show is change and I think people who go on and on about a certain actor/showrunner/writer/designer/whatever has RUINED the show, it's worth a good laugh.

(I mean, I HATED Moffatt's run. Hated it. So I didn't watch until things changed, because that's what Doctor Who does.)
