My two most recent anime loves fit the bill:

"Mahoutsukai no Yome" and "Lost Song".

I also love "Gegege no Kitaro", all the series, but some might find it too childish since it is aimed at kids (how to learn about Japanese folktale youkai in easily digestible form).

You might also want to try, if you don't mind going truly oldschool, "Rose of Versailles". Early in the series the characters are teenaged, and there are a few soapy moments, but by and large it's more "historical drama set in the time leading up to and the start of the French Revolution".
