My main issue is that we mostly get told about Snoke's influence on Kylo but never really shown. And that's never a good thing.

THIS. I would be much more sympathetic to Kylo Ren's character if we ever actually saw HOW Snoke influenced him or ANYTHING that had actually pushed him towards the Dark Side in the first place.
