This. I'm really enjoying this season. It's quite tiresome to hear so many people constantly bashing it and hiding behind the word "agenda".

I got sick of Clara long before she left, and I doubt I was alone in that, but it didn't mean the show was crap, it just meant I wasn't enjoying an aspect of it, and thank god it has the format it did. I could peace out and come back when things had changed a bit.

(Also, I really don't get the RTD love. I adored Queer as Folk, and enjoyed his Doctor Who at the time, but retrospectively, his era was the weakest overall, IMO.)

Because there are times when Doctor Who is not awesome. When it's badly made, or at least seriously flawed. At least, that's a viable opinion that people can express. It doesn't mean that they're negative nancies who are only hatewatching and bringing down the fandom. Every era of Classic Who and Modern Who has its problems, and some of those problems are more or less serious.

Personally, I don't think that this season is terrible, but I do think Chibnall's writing hasn't been up to snuff so far.

But can we just say what we like or dislike about the show without bashing other seasons, writers, showrunners, actors, etc? Fandom would be a nicer place without unnecessary confrontations.

I definitely agree that people shouldn't go out of their way to be assholes. Let people like what they like. But I also think it's kind of inevitable to compare different eras of Doctor Who, and I also think it's interesting to try and figure out why certain things work for you and try and understand the show critically. The problem isn't criticizing seasons, writers, showrunners, or actors; the problem is being an asshole about it.

There is a huge gulf of difference between "I personally don't like this part of Doctor Who" and "Doctor Who is ruined forever" or "no real fan could like this part of Who." One is expressing an opinion. The other is being an asshole.

Yes.

I just don't agree with "The show has always changed. But it has always been awesome."

Glad you like it, nonny! But no, it hasn't always been awesome. And it's stupid to expect people to think that. Because it has always changed it's always been a different programme that attracts different audiences. For NuWho that has the unfortunate side effect of people who liked it not letting go when their time is up.
