I find the guy pretty annoying too, but those are some pretty strong opinions, there, OP!

(Honestly, though, I find Nicholas to be more annoying in their interactions, and taking his kids in doesn't make up for it. This dude, whose name I can't remember, had serious concerns about how the strike would affect his family, and Nicholas was too wrapped up in his ideology to acknowledge them with any compassion or realistic ideas of how to address those concerns, as I recall.)

Nicholas wasn't as sympathetic as he could be, nor did he really grasp that Boucher wasn't made of sterner stuff the way he was. But Nicholas was correct in saying that if men like Boucher caved, the union would never succeed in getting fair wages to support themselves and their families. But he wasn't entirely without compassion - he gave Boucher money out of his own pocket to Boucher to feed his children and promised him they wouldn't starve, so Boucher didn't HAVE to cave. And Nicholas was true to his word.

Wow, that's a rather defensive response to a pretty innocuous remark that acknowledged how right you were that Nicholas didn't handle the Boucher situation as well as he could have done. I'm just pointing out that he did address Boucher's main concern - the welfare of his children.

Not once did I suggest you shouldn't be annoyed by Nicholas. Maybe take a deep breath? Not everyone who disagrees with you is attacking you.

Hardly intended to be defensive. Just indicating I didn't care to discuss it, despite the paragraphs-long attempt to disagree with my statement of opinion.

(And, no, he didn't address Boucher's main concern, unless Boucher is just supposed to naively believe his children wouldn't starve just because Nicholas said they wouldn't.)

I find it hilarious that two different people replied to a comment criticizing this "horrible" response simply because the anon chose not to engage further in a conversation in a vaguely snarky way. If anyone is overreacting...

Wow, never thought I'd see a Boucher secret!

I found his character intensely pitiable. He is sheer desperation made flesh, and I think the actor conveyed that amazingly. He had such a nervous energy, such despair in every line of his face and body. But I do understand why he might provoke a viscerally irritated reaction; his voice is really nasal and he's pathetic in both the charitable traditional sense and the rather more cutting modern sense. It was especially obvious next to Nicholas' calm stoicism and Bessie's frankness in the face of death.

Very well put. I appreciate the acting that went into it and I think it was on point... but it's so good that I can't bring myself to like the character at all.

It's such a good miniseries! I really love Margaret as a heroine and Richard Armitage is fantastic as Thornton.
