In agreement with OP. Too many warnings is annoying, and life doesn't come with warnings. If it looks a little bit dodgy, protect yourself and stay away. Don't ask me to do it for you. I'll think you're a whiny baby.

There are legit content warnings all the fuck over, though. They're just for things you have deemed "okay."

No, life doesn't come with warnings, but this might come as a surprise to you: fanfic isn't life. In fact, many people read fanfic for escapism from life. They don't have to play by the same rules.

"Please note that the following video on Tonight's Nightly News is graphic and may be upsetting to some viewers"
"This film is rated R for graphic violence and sexual content."
"This film is not yet rated."
"This video game is for T and up."
"Warning: This TV show has adult themes that some parents may find unsuitable for children."
"Warning: This TV episode deals with [trauma/self harm/EDs/mass violence/domestic violence]. If you are struggling, please check out [this resource]."

But yeah, there's no warnings in real life or anything.

Ratings =/= content warnings. General warnings for violent or sexual content =/= specific narrative spoilers. I have never encountered a network that pre-warned for specific content, though I have seen messages at the end of a show that offered resources for people dealing with traumatic circumstances addressed in-show, which is nice, but also is not a narrative spoiler.

Dude

All of those are warning labels. Deal with it. I'm sorry you don't accept it, but that's what those are and like. If your narrative is so dependent on your edgy reveal that you're okay with potentially legitimately triggering someone, maybe you need to rethink your writing.

No, they're not. And even if they were, it is not other people's job to manage your triggers. It is your job to manage your triggers. Just don't click on fic marked CNTW and stop expecting everyone else in the entire goddamn world to manage your mental health for you.
