I've just started watching this and I felt the same way, but I find it fun. In addition to Shane taking the steam out of Ryan's freakouts, like everyone else mentioned, Ryan is also kinda fun to laugh at. I know it's a bit mean to laugh at someone who seems genuinely scared and I don't want the guy to have a heart attack out of fright or anything. But every time he brings out that stupid radio box and hears a word, the face he makes cracks me up. He goes from 0 to 100 and then Shane brings him back down to 0 just as fast. It's a fun dynamic that really tempers how annoying Ryan can be for skeptics.
