The other side of this is that Ryan *likes* being scared. Or at least, I'm pretty sure he does--his Twitter was raving about horror movies all during October, so.

Yes, the earlier stuff is more "HOW ARE YOU NOT FREAKED OUT RIGHT NOW!?!??!" but Shane's whole "because it's all bullshit" attitude offers a good balance. And even when they do the "isolation" bits, they cut to the other person doing commentary on it. So Shane will be in there commenting on the architecture of the building and cut to Ryan like "that asshole is probably in there reciting poetry and having a grand old fucking time like the maniac he is", then we flip to Ryan being like "oh goooooooooddddddddddd oh god oh help me jesus WHAT WAS THAT" and cut to Shane like "You know, I know he's in there scared out of his mind, but he's doing a lot better lately, I'm proud of him."

Plus the post-mortems help, when they dissect it more and you can see where the hamming it up for the cameras part comes in.

Anyway, if nothing else watch the True Crime stuff because their dynamic is just really good.
