She recognized that he needed to get out of her bubble and be more independent, and supported that pretty wholly. I might be cutting her too much slack, because what she did couldn't have been easy and, awkwardness aside, he seemed like a decent kid.

But let's not forget she's also the one who pulled him out of public school and somehow never made the effort to make sure he had friends his own age or played outside but she's buying him a gigantic apartment and he's going to live on his own... 20 minutes from where she lives.
