you will just never stop being so salty about disney, will you?

(Anonymous) 2018-12-11 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
But. There are extremely good reasons to criticize Disney, why does it have to be about saltiness? It's not a criticism of you to say that a multinational entertainment conglomerate is bad. What's your deal?

(Anonymous) 2018-12-11 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
there's a certain user (who you probably are lbr here) who just will not shut up about how disney is ruining the world with their streaming service and owning multiple properties and it's the worst thing everrrrr. it gets stale when there's nothing but 'disney is the devil!!1' constantly echoing in the chamber.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-11 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm probably the only person who cares about it in regards to streaming platforms but I'm definitely not the only person who is critical of Disney. I never even bring it up.

And to be clear, I'm not even secret OP. I appreciate your respect for my power and influence though.

It's really silly to assume that only one person could possibly take issue with Disney's business practices.

Disney is legit terrible though. Why shouldn’t someone criticize a mega corporation that’s brainwashed the masses into bending over backwards and licking its own ass every time it does the absolute least.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-11 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
show me where this is happening

(Anonymous) 2018-12-12 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
literally any time your criticize the mouse for being a monopolizing corporation that’s buying out everything and that it’s the only form of animation that’s ever taken seriously/given a pass a legion of foaming fans at the mouth come at you with HDU HATE CHILDHOOD. also criticizing their princess business is compounded with BUT THEY REFERNECED THEIR CLICHES IN WRECK IT RALPH (But will continue to be just as formulaic as ever and not change) SO THAT MEANS THEYRE OKAY SEE IT IS U WHO IS THE ANTIFEMNIST defenders come out the woodwork. They’re up their with Saint JK Rowling level of defenders and delusional. Let’s not pretend Disney hasn’t had a hand in foistering these crazies with their childhood nostalgia.

Not OP, and while I like a lot of the movies Disney puts out, they've been a strong influence on copyright law and extending the amount of time before a product can enter the public domain, so yeah, I have some concerns with them as a business. Especially considering their size and disproportionate influence.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-12 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
see that's a valid complaint and an interesting topic to discuss, not just foaming at the mouth at disney's imperialism.

...there could be a pattern with one anon, but lots of people here are cynical about Disney.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-12 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
disney deserves salt (along with other massive companies like it). they're in serious need of de-monopolization.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-12 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It's like beating a dead horse at this point...
(i totally lol'd at your comment btw)

(Anonymous) 2018-12-11 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
But is this movie any good? It looks interesting and I don't even recognize Kiera Knightley. It looks like a fun costume piece with fantasy and good visuals if nothing else.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-12 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
It's visually stunning, but the story is weak and the characters are shallow. I liked it, but I have very low standards. "Ooo, pretty!" is enough for me.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-12 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt - thank you! that's what I figured. it looks like a good snow day movie to snuggle up and watch some pretty scenery and costuming swirl by!

(Anonymous) 2018-12-11 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
what does this even mean? you're glad they didn't tell the traditional story because disney is shady? what does the story being told traditionally or not have to do with disney's business practices?

(Anonymous) 2018-12-12 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have much to say about this secret except I love that pink outfit on the girl in back

(Anonymous) 2018-12-12 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
it is extremely good!

(Anonymous) 2018-12-12 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
There is no...faithful adaptation of The Nutcracker.

The ballet's plot is thin
The second act doesn't even make sense unless you know what happened earlier (which is why shows which don't do the first act have to print a summary in the program)
Productions regularly change and/or disagree about the names of the characters (Is she Clara or Marie) and which piece of music corresponds with which second act piece- are they Les Merlitons, Shepherds or Marzipan? Why do the Candy Canes only ever seem to show up in amateur productions?
Companies regularly change the location of the story or do their own cultural/thematic spin (there's a hip hop version and a Jewish version and one based in 19th century Australia iirc)

It's anyone's sandbox to play in.

Although yeah, I get what you're saying about not wanting Disney to like, copyright the most familiar version so no one else can use it again.

It just looked like a really bad movie. Even the trailers were bad. No way would I waste my money on seeing in the theater.
