I think "insofar as it was possible" would be much less than you think, though.

It's been literally 24 years... most of the original actors wouldn't sound the same except the people who already were well into mature adulthood at the time. Especially since most of the cast hasn't been actively voice acting professionally or anything to keep their acting voice the same

Also I'm sure at least the voice of Sarabi died, and I know the voice of Rafiki did pretty recently.

Yeah, but dismissed the possibility that "insofar as that was possible" might really be just JEJ in practical terms, who has always been a steady voice performer. The others might have turned it down or felt no longer able to reprise the roles and such. So it's not really a practical alternative option OP is presenting.
