Probably so they won’t have to pay anything, because they’re an insurance company and if they can avoid ever having to pay anything, they will, even if it means denying someone needed care.

Probably. Just not sure what we're going to do. The rehab place did a run-through of our house. It was a very difficult hip break. We're going to have to add ramps to our doors and some rails in the house and a few other things. That takes time. No way to have that done by Friday. Our doors have pretty big steps up to get in. He could barely get the wheelchair in today for the house check with two of us helping.

I'm sorry your insurance is hassling you. That is really rough. Insurance companies can be so dickish. I hope your dad gets what he needs and has his chance to rest and recover.

Thanks. I'm also a little scared because once both of them are home, I'll be the only driver in the house. I start back at work tomorrow. They hate asking friends for rides. He's going to need constant care (and isn't able to afford an at-home nurse). She's going to need help too.

I'm still recovering. I'm at the point where I can mostly handle my own things, though I'm still not supposed to lift really heavy stuff. But the idea of having to handle them too is kind of scary.

It sounds scary.

Most people can't afford a 24-hour nurse but sometimes CNAs or care staff will come for part of the day for a relatively reasonable rate. I used to do that work through an agency and I would go in the mornings and help a woman with MS get out of bed and eat breakfast.

But of course maybe they can't afford that either which I can totally understand.

My mother's insurance is giving her a home nurse for a couple hours a day. My dad's will not, though. Not sure why since same insurance.

With three surgeries and multiple hospital stays in the family the past month, money is really tight. Some friends have donated some, so we're okay. But I don't think we could afford that. I don't know. My mom will be home either tomorrow or Thursday, and we'll probably sit down and talk about things and make plans. It has been hard to plan with three of us in three different locations.
