Just to be clear, *I* don't expect POC authors to never fuck up. I just know that realistically, they're going to be under a great deal of scrutiny because of who they are and the times we live in. In this case, we're not really talking about simple human error, we're talking about a really serious, public accusation of plagiarism that the author did not spend even five minutes researching before she made it. That kind of error actually is quite easily avoided.

I'm not accusing you of that (and I don't think that morieris is either), and I also am definitely not trying to minimize what she did. I agree that it's basically a trap of expectations where every individual POC author becomes OUR ONE HOPE, especially when those authors fuck up. It's just another reason why it's fucked up to build those expectations in the first place, and another way in which it departs from real equality.

I agree. I'm the OP, BTW. That attitude of "one and done" is why my heart sank when I heard, though.

Yeah, should have emphasized my thought better of "POC aren't allowed to fuck up publicly or they never get another chance."

Heh, yep. As if she's the only author who ever made a Daughter/Child of ______- & ______. There's probably five series called Children of Blood and Bone.
