A lot of what I read is one-short porny or character-based fics, though. Is there a way to search by word count range? Sorting just puts the most words at the top, and I'm not necessarily looking for the most words.

You can always keep it sorting by date but in the "search within results" section put "Words > 50" (or 100 or whatever) and then it'll leave out anything with under 50 (or whatever) words

You don't even need to do this anymore! There's a dedicated "Word Count" dropdown now (under "More Options") that allows you to set an upper and lower bar, so you can be as precise as you need to.

From what I can tell, you SHOULD be able to find works in a range by using a statement like wordcount<10000 wordcount>200 in the Search Within Results field, but it doesn't seem to be treating that as an AND statement.

(I've submitted a bug report.)

For now, you can at least put in your upper range, sort by Word Count, and then ignore the final pages of art, podfic, fanvids, etc (which have 0 Word Count.)

See anon answer above!

It's a moot point, what with the dedicated field, but for the record, the syntax for doing a range in Search Within Results is 'words:100-1000'.

You can do the same stuff with kudos as well.

Thanks! I knew that there used to be a way to do it, but I hadn't used it enough to remember the syntax
