Are previews that big a deal? I guess I can understand it for spoiler-type stuff but...if the art/artist is good and i'm interested, I just want to see the art. I don't care about a preview.

Yeah but there is no way to tell if the art or artist is good while just scrolling through AO3 because it doesn’t show the art in any sort of preview image. Text summaries do not draw people in to wanting to click on random art, so art is usually ignored in favor of fanfic.

I guess I'm used to art that goes along with a story, so that's how I see it.

I see random fanart on pinterest, mostly.
