I don't get invested in fiction easily, so I read a lot of original fiction that is objectively good, but that I don't have more than a little bit of emotional investment in.

But when it comes to fanfic, I'm already really fucking invested from the beginning. So basically, I'm more emotionally invested in even shitty fanfic than I am in 98% of original fiction. Which makes fanfic a lot more delicious and compulsively readable than the vast majority of original fiction for me.
