But She-Ra had a series before, so people weren't going into the fandom totally with the characters being total unknowns.

I think that's part of the point...people weren't necessarily shipping based on the old series, they were shipping based on what they thought the new characters would be...and I'm guessing that the reality didn't match the fantasy.

Wow Really!??? That's awesome I have only commented on fs 3 times in my life but /was/ actually was one of the people refusing to watch she-ra at first because I was like "it's all hype! Like I'd ever watch that. I liked old she-ra!" And agreed w the secrets saying "who ships b4 the show lol lol", "new she ra is (criticism here)", i even told my groupchat /as if i would watch that show/.

Buuuut then my friend outside my group chat sent me a gifset of various catradora moments after saying "you might like she ra. Its pretty lesbo." While i was out drinking with my mate who I actually first met at my sister's birthday dinner and we bonded over anime of all things. We're not even that /in/ to anime but we definitely like it. For example he'd never seen death note before so I brought round my box set and we marathoned it and became closer, he was really impressed with all the gambits within that show lolol, he's shown me a load of cool things from his comic collection too but there are too many to list! We also play badminton together (and my friend who recced me she-ra teases me for it lolol)

Anyway, being me, who tries to avoid any shows with characters as "lesbians", since my attitude is 'thanks can you kill them sooner rather than later so i can get over my disappointment more quickly' (I feel I've been jaded too many times), i refused immediately! Then my eyes locked onto the scene of Catra dipping Adora at the princess party while messing with her and i finished the series within the day. Wow! I love Catra and Adora now.

I formally informed my group chat: "so basically: im she-ra." To which their reply was "YOU!?!?" "And after everything you said" "lmao" as I'm known to not go back on my decision on shows/books/podcasts (although that's normally after several attempts at getting into them so she-ra was different)!

Even my friend who I'd been drinking with was like "this is pretty good!" Which is funny cause he was saying it looked childish at first lol but now we're excited for s2.

I gotta say anyone who shipped before the show were doing it right and knew they were looking for rivals in their ship. New she ra is awesome I'm a fan now. I trust the showrunners to not kill them off (that sounds so morbid to write but it really be like that) AND have a good time writing it so I'm sticking around now \O/

What about you what was your attitude of the show before and after? Have you seen it/did you enjoy it?

SA - I haven't watched it (don't have Netflix + trying to catch up on other shows), but I'm oddly captivated by it. Like, I can't stop looking for fanart of Adora and Catra and reading meta. I'm probably just in the right corner of the fandom because I've heard only good things about it. Also, I LOVE the character designs - everyone looks so unique! Glad to hear you're enjoying it so much! :D
