It helps to have friends on Goodreads that read a lot and have similar tastes. Things they've marked "To Read" or reviewed highly can easily go on your own "To Read" pile to check out from the library or Overdrive.

I have a few fandom friends on Goodreads and since I already know we match pretty well in fandom, we seem to match pretty well on Goodreads.

Oh yeah I agree. My friends definitely help because a couple of them have extremely similar tastes to me. I'm essentially in a friend bubble on Goodreads most of the time but whenever I try to venture out of it, I'm often disappointed.
