Yeah, this sounds really reasonably put. There are lots of people who just read and don't write-- either they only write for one or two fandoms and have more that they only read in, or they just aren't writers and their creative talents or pursuits lie elsewhere, and like... there's not a rule that you have to create anything to be in a fandom, you can just discuss and enjoy, after all.

I have certain people that I know I like to read, in various fandoms. And for my small/rare fandoms I'll read ANYTHING because it's just so rare to have anything to read, and in mid-size fandoms It depends on my mood and whether it's the type of fic I like, but in my mega-sized fandoms? I don't really read a lot of fic at all. I like to look at art or discuss meta more than I'm interested in stories. So like... I don't really read any fic for Harry Potter or Star Trek nowadays but am always ready to jump into a lively discussion or to praise a piece of art.

But I think it is also reasonable to not want to shout into the void. I don't think anyone should be ashamed of wanting to know what people thought of something they worked hard on, but if you're forcing yourself to read something just in order to do that for others, then you're not going to have a good experience with it.
