people don't r and r BACK but you barely do it in the first place?

look. I get it. But I also make a HUGE effort to read and comment on other peoples. for lots of reasons - we all want some validation and encouragement. it keeps the system going (I know I don't feel like writing when no one reads it). You can make great friends and get stuff written for you.

Nah, the writer has already done their part in the matter by producing and posting the fic. What you're suggesting here is that to keep the system going, they ALSO have to read and comment on other people's fic too? Exactly how much of the fandom burden are writers supposed to be carrying?

Agreed. The OP's hypocrisy is astounding but everyone says "sure, just write, never read!" - presumably they're all of the "how dare anyone want comments" frame of mind because why should anyone who never makes any effort to support authors get any themselves? Writers read. That's how it is, or should be.

I get, on average, 75 hits before I get any likes/kudos, and often many, many more hits before I get a comment. If I'm going to start blaming or resenting anyone in fandom for not "pulling their weight", it's going to be those nameless, faceless takers before any other writers (many of whom do comment).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought people read fic because that's something they enjoy doing. If you don't enjoy reading it, don't do it. No one's getting paid here. You might be right about OP, idk, but you just lumped a bunch of us into a category unfairly.
