Fandom auction anon from yesterday—I didn’t win anything, even the one thing that I wanted that went for below my cutoff, because I was still figuring out the bidding system. I guess at least I’m ~$650.00 richer than I would’ve been, but I’m still moping.

It’s like the time I went set stalking and got lost and then the next day all these awesome bts photos came out, or seeing all the amazing stuff that happened at the conventions I missed to stay with my mom. Still boggling at the presumed millionaire who spent $10,000 on a(n admittedly awesome) prop, though.

Is there something smaller but still nice you can give to yourself? You do deserve a treat.

AYRT—I guess I will keep an eye out for convention appearances to get something cool signed? The actor who plays my favorite character is notoriously (and understandably, he’s got at least one scary dedicated stalker) con shy. I have a generic signed poster, but my heart lives for props and costumes. And I can try and replicate the costumes I lost out on, but I suck at tailoring and leatherwork. Plus it won’t have that indefinable coolness factor of having been worn onscreen by my fave character/actor. I can’t even check tumblr to see if anyone I was rooting for won anything. Sigh.

I just know how my brain works—if I earmark money for a big fun thing and end up not being able to do/buy the thing, then every time I think “I could spend the money on X not quite as cool thing instead,” but I end up just paying for day to day stuff and feel guilty next time I want to splurge.

The only thing that will jolt me into spending a bunch of money is making costumes, and most of the time I spread materials costs over a long time—even years. I have a bolt of silk I’ve been sitting on for idk, 5 years, and I’ve made some other things in the meantime, but I think the silk is gonna become my next costume—I’ve accumulated almost all the trim I’ll need. Maybe I will start stockpiling alligator hides and brocades for next year.
