Out of curiosity, does anyone here send snail mail anymore?

(Anonymous) 2018-12-18 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I used to do this hobby where people sent each other mail art or small packages and it could be really cool sometimes knowing that you had a surprise coming to you by post. I miss that.

I can't remember the last time I sent something by post. My sister gets packages nearly every day from online retailers so I guess that industry is going on strong at least.

That is one of my resolutions for next year. Sending more physical mail. I actually started last week. Sent my sister a letter. I bought some fancy cards, envelopes, and stamps to do it!

Cute stationery is one of my guilty pleasures. :)

All the time for work, lol.

I do at work and occasionally send stuff to friends.

We've had to teach students (college-age) how to address envelopes. They didn't know where to put the addresses or even what should go where in an address block. So I'm guessing they don't send snail mail... ever.

Oh, wow. I get that younger people probably don't mail things out but... have they never seen a piece of mail, either? Even one that's sent to their parents?

It's weird, right? I guess they just haven't paid much attention to how mail is addressed?

packages aside, I do still send my parents cards and mail tax-related checks. I still get checks from some of my clients instead of paypal.

I do! I have a penpal and I send my friends who live across the country cards and presents on their birthdays and for Christmas. I also do Postcrossing from time to time.

I just looked up Postcrossing! This is such a cute service!

That's very cool! I've thought about getting into Postcrossing, too.

I just sent out a bunch of Christmas cards like a real grown-up!

I used to send a lot of postcards and occasional letters and cards to my grandparents and great-uncle, because they really liked that (and my great-uncle's hearing was mostly shot, so calling him was kind of futile) but they are all dead now.

I have a shoe box of interesting postcards and greeting cards that I picked up over the years and would occasionally raid for stationary, but I've largely run dry of people to send them to. I still send postcards to my parents and brother when I travel sometimes, though.

I have a couple of friends who live far from me who occasionally send me letters or packages, but usually everything I get is from online retailers even if it's a gift. I send letters now and then for work but that's about it.

Speaking of letters I've discovered that I can't write cursive anymore. I sat down and tried to compose a note in cursive and I couldn't remember how to do it. I can still sign my name but that's about it. It's embarrassing, but I guess I just lost the skill after not using it for so long.

I used to do that, too. I miss it as well. :(

I send a Christmas card or two every year, that's about it. But I get lots of packages when I shop online (which I try to do whenever possible bc it's just so much easier).

I don't have a car, so I shop for almost everything except groceries online.

Occasionally. To relatives for holidays/birthdays. And I have one friend who has worse depression than I do. When she gets really bad and suicidal, I send her a little something to remind her someone cares.

I mailed out Christmas gifts. And cards. Does that count?

Yeah! I send snail mail to a couple online friends. Just little letters, and maybe cards or gifts I think they might like. I just like the surprise of getting something in the post, I think it's fun to give that to somebody

i always send out birthday and christmas (maybe easter) greeting cards and make an effort to make them nice and personalized with stamps and stickers. Letters not so much, unless it's an official piece (cancellation of stuff for example).
For christmas i also send out packages acros the country and the world.

i also noticed that priate mail arrives faster than deliveries. A package sent to a friend on the other end of the country usually arrives the next day (latest 2 days after) whereas delivery usually takes *at least* 2 business days.

I'm not doing holiday cards this year for online peeps but I did last year and I sent a postcard to someone in the US this year. It's nice to send and receive cards and postcards :)
