Bojack Horseman was quite possibly the worst show you could have picked for needing a laugh or two. o_O I had to stop watching it because it got so nihilistic and depressing.

Yup- took the words right out of my mouth...
Bojack is that last thing to go to for a laugh.;;

I've seen a lot of people say they couldn't continue because this show hit on too many things they didn't want to dwell on. I can get that but I'm the opposite. I found it weirdly comforting even though it made me intensely sad a couple of times.

But I definitely recommend taking a break every handful of episodes whenever I suggest it to people. Weird thing is I had the (apparently) typical reaction of "what the hell am I watching?" at the start of season 1. I really didn't expect it to become what it did even though I was warned!

Yeah, I find it kind of comforting as well. But then, I think part of that might be that I don't intensely relate to any of the characters. Like, I relate to them all a bit (except maybe Mr. Peanutbutter), but none of them super strongly. And I really don't relate to Bojack much at all, which I think is a major factor in how depressing the show will be for a person. Everyone I know who strongly relates to Bojack finds the show annihilating - which probably makes sense.

That's an excellent explanation

I thought it was common knowledge that this show is depressing as fuck.

Brilliant show.

I got into it thinking that it would be a dumb, funny stoner comedy and ended up sobbing over a cartoon horse, what is even my life?

my favorite show
