To every anon in this thread: Please stop using the q-slur as an umbrella term. If someone is ignorant enough to use it as a term for their own identity, fair enough, it's their prerogative; but don't use it to describe the community as a whole, because it really is a slur and an awful one at that. Thank you.

Then gay is also a slur and shouldn't be used.
Queer studies exist. Queer has been a reclaimed umbrella term for years - decades.
It's offensive for you to call someone "ignorant" for using the term that they choose for themselves.
Fucking Tumblr and TERFS are the reason for this handwringing over a term that's been used to promote marginalised sexuality as "queer culture" and "queer communities". LGBTQ+ - q is queer as well as questioning.
