This is late but I need to rant

I just now got off the phone with the cable customer service people because they just randomly decided to turn off most of my TV channels a couple hours ago. After being on hold for half an hour and then another 20 minutes of a lady who seemed to have no clue what she was doing, they finally got turned back on but I missed a show that I'm not sure is going to rerun and I doubt it's popular enough that I'll be able to find it on demand anywhere. Gah.

That sucks. But sometimes there are surprising shows on demand - it won't hurt to check the next couple of days. Or maybe you could find it on YouTube - people put all kinds of stuff up. Hope you find it. The cable company might ask you fill out a survey about your experience - tell them about the wait, the experience, and missing the show. It probably won't help you this time, but it might push them to improve some for the future.

If I were my mom, I'd say you'd need call back to then ask for some sort of discount... Ask for their work ID numbers (most, if not all employees have a reference code they're noted by), and ask if the call was to be recorded (if not, ask that it should;;). Then see how many managers you can get through, until you reach someone who might be in charge... (all the while recording everyones personal ID's for future/'they said' basis...) She'd then ask for additional channels/utilities for the inconvenience, on top of the discount that you should already be owed... Plus more, and more, and more...;;
(right... i think i might be a slight bit traumatised, if this is the first thing i think of;;)

But if you're a normal person who doesn't want to spend weeks on the phone for an accidental inconvenience... Maybe you could call back and ask for some sort of compensation? I don't know if you'd get it, but it doesn't hurt to ask..?
I really am sorry that happened to you. Hopefully your show has a rerun sometime soon, so you can watch it!

I subscribed to cable about 6 years ago. I didn't sign up for HD channels but occasionally there would be a free weekend of HD. One time, though, the HD channels didn't go away... for several years. My bill amount hadn't changed so I figured this was just a standard part of my package and I had missed whatever notice had been sent out about it.

Then, after years of this, the HD channels suddenly went away. Around the same time, I was suddenly getting HBO when I had never signed up for premium channels. Again, my bill amount hadn't changed. The bill did now say I was getting HBO, but for free. I even got an email summarizing "the changes I ordered" when I hadn't ordered any changes. There was no info about the HD channels going away.

I called customer service and they insisted I had never had HD and were incredulous when I said I'd had those channels for years. This is when I learned the cable company (at least, the customer service division) only knows what you're signed up for, and have no idea what's actually coming through your cable box. I had gotten used to HD, especially how it didn't crop the broadcast channels, so I agreed to pay an extra $10 to sign up for HD. They told me the HBO was a free gift and wasn't going to go away.

Guess what? The HBO went away. I wasn't going to bother calling about that since I'd probably just be told the free gift was over and I had to pay for HBO if I wanted it. My bill showed that I wasn't getting HBO anymore and I got an email summary of the "changes I ordered." I figure this is just the standard phrasing used in emails about order changes regardless of why they happened, but I HAD NOT ORDERED CHANGES. DONT'T TELL ME I MADE THIS HAPPEN.

Then I moved and decided to drop cable altogether. I wanted to save money and try to watch less tv, but also I was tired of these random package changes and being told I ordered changes when I didn't or that I couldn't possibly be getting the channels I was clearly getting. I still watch a lot of tv, thanks to rediscovering digital channels - there's even more of them now!

I still get internet from the same provider, and they still charged me the full internet+cable price the next full month after I cancelled the cable. The extra amount turned into a credit before I could even complain, but that made the next couple of bills screwy as they were either fully or partially paid for by the credit. I think now I'm actually just getting billed the regular internet price, finally. Maybe. We'll see. Switching to another provider is likely to just be more of the same, given how much people bitch.
