I definitely think that readers should be willing to give any kind of feedback to help encourage writers.

They don't have to. But it's literally the sole motivation for sharing one's work in fandom.

I don't think it's necessarily the *sole* motivation. But I agree, it's a good thing for readers to comment or give kudos on fics they like when they can.

I share because it's finished and there's no reason to keep it to myself. I don't care what happens once it's out there, really. My kudos emails actually annoy me a little bit because I'd rather it be a notification for something from my subscriptions :(. Honestly the reaction that has most motivated me was someone saying that my fic had made them ship my rare pair, followed by them writing fic for them a few months later. Write fic → get more fic is very a compelling argument to me.

I definitely understand that a lot of authors just want attention, and I don't begrudge them for it. (I've shared other creations in search of attention!) But not everyone is just in it for attention, honest!
