I've always had a female GYN. The couple of times i had to see a male (free clinics and such), they were complete fucking assholes who ignored what i had to say and treated me like an idiot.

*Of course*, you go with your gut, and if you get a good vibe from the doc, that's fine, but if you don't? If they ignore you, talk over you, treat you like it's 'all in your head' or that you're exaggerating, etc? Run! Run away!
