How? I mean, he was pretty much rubbing in her face that he had all the power and she was an ant he'd crush, so it was a pretty classic case of instant karma. She was obviously terrified out of her mind and I don't think, with a psychiatrist's screening and an impartial jury, she would have been convicted of anything.

Of course, she lied about the whole thing abominably and then blamed lying (to her) as being the one great sin Matt had committed against her but then I don't like Karen very much. She has the self-awareness of a toaster.

Oh god, SAME. I'm not saying I know exactly how I wish it had ended, I just wish it had ended differently. As it was, the character I was most interested in seeing more of got killed by the character I was least interested in seeing more of. It was incredibly disappointing.

Uh... No?
The guy was already overstepping his boundaries by going over Fisk. It might be because I particularly hate characters like him, but at some point he decided that he knew better than his position called for. The series did a great job shaping him to be the overeager, self-righteous, all but reluctant servant to Fisk- who's arrogance turned out to be his downfall...

He put the gun on the table because he expected that Karen would cower and obey. It was a pathetic attempt at a scare tactic- and given it was never his job to play bodyguard, he really didn't know any other way to play it.
He deserved to die because he thought he was better than he was... He thought his position would give him the advantage, but it's wasn't as if Karen saw him as anything more than another pawn in Fisk's army...
He was nothing more than a messenger. He was trusted to carry out Fisk's orders, believed in enough to rectify any misunderstandings... To go against him, meant to go against Fisk.
It got to his head, and it ended up killing him.

Karen on the other hand was put in a position she would never give in to... Killing him wasn't even her intention. She pulled the trigger on a bluff- because calling it was really her only option.
She had already witnessed, and had been scapegoated for their crimes already. She wasn't about to let herself be some sort of damsel in distress. So she saw an opportunity, and she took it... I honestly doubt she expected the gun to even be loaded.

Ugh... Basically.
I felt the show lead up to this point rather well, same with Karen's reaction to the kill. She pulled the trigger never expecting it to fire, but with the full intention for it to hit. (ho'shit, seems like I've been bottling this up for a while now, huh?)
