It does not take much time nor energy tho. And this is not their personal lives but their professional behaviour. If your show is based around a git who makes everyone's life hell then I don't want to back your show.

Yeah, I don't get this, either. If I like a show, I'm going to watch it.

And I fully realize how massively unpopular this opinion is, especially on this comm.

So enjoy!

That is just my personal stance but you do you. I'm not one to get militant about it which is something I deffo don't agree with.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-27 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
That's fine! It's also fine to care about it

(Anonymous) 2018-12-27 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Or at least how vocal the opposition to that opinion is. The rest of us are quietly still just watching shows we like.

There are SO many people involved in making something like a TV show or movie, how in the world are we supposed to expect every person involved in making it to be perfect? Just like or not like the show, based on the show, it's okay. (And maybe complain about the person you don't like directly)

People - actors, producers - should know that their bad behavior can cost not-famous people their jobs.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-27 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with your overall point, but stuff like this:

how in the world are we supposed to expect every person involved in making it to be perfect?

has never made sense to me. Nobody's perfect, but not everyone is Michael Weatherley, either.

AYRT- sure, and I certainly understand there are levels of bad and levels of involvement in the bad-things... I just don't understand the idea of being required to dislike a show now because one person involved is a shit-head (getting back to anon above's point about how it is wildly unpopular to still like a show after someone involved has been accused of misconduct). Why should everyone involved in the show suffer because one actor is a dick?

It also seems like the gateway to a slippery slope. Now it's accusations of harassment that 'ruin a show' (which definitely, if founded, the person accused to should answer for), but in 6 months will I have to stop watching This is Us because a gaffer kicked a puppy?

Why should everyone involved in the show suffer because one actor is a dick?

I mean, it definitely sucks! But it's literally the lead actor, and IDK how you have meaningful consequences for the lead actor without affecting the other people on the show, and I think there should be consequences for the lead actor talking about his rape van and threatening to spank his female costar for messing up a line and shit.

NAYRT: I don't know anyone said that you're required to dislike the show.

But in this case, the director, the producer, and the network all were legally obligated to tell the shit-head to knock it off once a complaint was made. Legally obligated since shows filmed in the United States are bound by the same labor laws as my workplace. They not only failed to act on the complaint, they fired the person making the complaint, which is also legally actionable discrimination.

So it's shit-heads all the way up, continuing to be shit-heads including violating the terms of a court order to keep the details sealed. Maybe Dushku can get another settlement out of that.

So, while you're not obligated to dislike the show, one shouldn't be surprised that other people don't want to watch it.

Don't know about this case, but in the Spacey case you had the a large chunk of management breaking the law to cover up multiple complaints on on-the-job harassment.

"There are SO many people involved in making something like a TV show or movie, how in the world are we supposed to expect every person involved in making it to be perfect?"

There is a whooooooole lot of room between "perfect" and "sexually harassing a co-worker". Like... so much room.

It's usually unpopular because the person still watching will say something like "why is [objectively bad thing] such a big deal?" or "[person who did objectively bad thing] can't be bad because they did [unrelated good thing]" or my personal favorite, scolding people whose enjoyment is affected by knowing shitty things are happening on set instead of just watching the show without bothering anybody. In my experience it's almost never about a person simply still liking the content, it's that they feel the need to defend it by attacking people. Just don't do that and you should be fine.
