nayrt - I think people are interpreting that supposed lack of understanding as a passive-aggressive criticism, because that's often the case in many situations where people "don't understand" simple concepts.

Examples:

"I don't understand why you wear that ratty old sweatshirt instead of the nice blouse I bought you!"

"I don't understand why people eat sushi, isn't it gross???"

"I've never understood people who get tattoos, aren't they afraid they'll never get a real job???"

Wow! I'm sorry i didn't mean it that way AT ALL! I meant genuine lack of understanding (sorry I'm autistic and sometimes I don't get my point across). It was more me going "I would get bored if I didn't have multiple different relationships to explore and can't understand only being into one thing", but not in a "how dare you only ship one thing" way. Clearly did not express that well, my bad :0
