completely agree, I really disliked her for bullying Hermione like that, it was such an immature thing to do. the way she is with Fleur as well really grated one me

I also never liked how she treated Ron - he's not even my favorite character, but things like not paying attention to his likes and dislikes (packing sandwiches he hates), giving him mortifying old robes for the Yule Ball but catering to GINNY. her 3rd year daughter who wasn't old enough to go to the ball, but somehow managed to have a decent dress, whereas Ron was left to squirm? I realize Molly couldn't afford to get fancy new robes, but it's weird that Ginny had suitable dress robes when she wasn't even meant to be attending, plus it's like Molly didn't even TRY to improve the robes at all, Ron has to do his own DIY to lessen the embarrassment.

This is why I get impatient with JKR's writing. I don't for a minute believe she meant to communicate that depth of characterization or imply that Molly favors Ginny over Ron. I think it's just her lack of consistency and thoughtfulness when it comes to the little details and following through on her own plot.

I entirely disagree. I think it was intentional and probably because Molly thought it matters how they look more to girls.

DA
Rowlings' characters are very life like, she manages to impart their complexity with only a few details here and there.
I should read her other books some of these days.
