One of my favorite fics is a super-long ramble-y exploration of a forced/arranged marriage where one half of the couple is an immortal sorceror and one is a normal person. The normal one goes to the bathroom, although it’s not described in any detail, and eats (although they’re not a good cook because they’ve had no practice) and sleeps.

The immortal one doesn’t need to do any of those things and is perplexed than their normal spouse is stubbornly set on eating non-magical food and doing mundane everyday things without magical shortcuts. But the normal one has a point—magic in their world is not generally positive or even value-neutral—it tires peole out, often causes more trouble than it saves, and the more magic its wielders use, the less they remember how to be human.

So the normal half spends some time wondering if going to the bathroom and eating and sleeping are, by being normal non-magical things, protective against the corrosive effects of magic.

If the author you’re talking about is describing each turd in loving detail, that sounds like a kink, though.
