115. Actually, no, you're the one "doin it rong." There are standards in writing. There are such things as rules of grammar and punctuation. Moreover, there's good writing and there's bad writing. And, from your secret, it sounds as though you prefer the bad sort of writing.

Actually, it just sounds like you've had your stories corrected too often. They must have needed it. You're just claiming "omg artistic expression" out of butthurt♥

I guess you missed my point. I'm saying that those standards can be relaxed to accomplish stylistic goals, or to further the feel of a story. And I find it a little judgmental of you to say that I prefer bad writing, when you can't truthfully claim to know anything about the fic I read. I'd prefer people to actually try out different writing instead of avoiding it without reason and proclaiming it "bad" without even reading it themselves.

And, by the way, assumptions aren't everything. I don't write myself, I just appreciate those who do - all of them, "correct" punctuation or no.

What you have said may very well be true in that I don't know what sort of "fic" you read, but I'd like to let it be known that I do not consider "fic" to be of any gravity whatsoever. Even the slang term for the stuff is a diminutive form of "fiction," so what does that say about the actual pieces themselves?

I highly recommend some literature to "fic" writers and readers--both experimental and traditional writers and experimental and traditional literature--before people begin suggesting that "fic" is the be-all and end-all of creative writing.

Wow, and you sound like an ass. :] *Insert pseudo analyzation of you based on grammar and word choice!*

I agree with the OP, except the bit about using quotes. Kinda need some indicator that a character is talking...

I think grammar rules can be streched a bit to reach an artistic goal. Breaking those rules may be a bit much, but I don't see anything wrong with attempting something different in creative writing. Sometimes it doesn't work but I respect the writer for at least giving it a shot.

There's a difference between standards and style. Someone who's exhibited and proven maturity in his/her writing should be more than capable (and able) to experiment with formatting. just look at James Joyce. (Not that I'm a fan of his, but his works are famous for a reason.)

WTF? Last I checked, it wasn't against any "standards" to write in second person, or in the present tense.

I once read a fanfic which was written in the second person, future tense (i.e. "you will"), and without quotation marks. It read so smoothly that I barely noticed any of it - the only thing that I really noticed, in fact, was the lack of quotation marks. But since they'd deliberately been left out to leave ambiguous what was really being said, I was fine with that.

If someone is "butthurt" here, I wonder if it's not the people who are upset that they don't have the talent or skill to pull a stylistic stunt like that and have it work.
