I'm not an only child. I have a brother who's special ed. While I understand about his condition (believe me, I understand), I feel like I have to be some sort of perfect child because my mother is ~barely hanging on~ (read: doesn't have a job herself even though she uses my brother's SSI money and her fiancee's money) and I'm "not helping".

I can't imagine what your friend is going through but at least her parents give a flying shit about her other than calling her a guest in their house when she's trying to put herself together.

You know how people always say stuff like "when you're older you'll realize your mother knew best" and "school days are the best days of your life"?

One major lesson I've learned in growing up is that those people are full of fucking shit.

Yeah. I know they're full of shit. High school was the worst thing to happen to me.

Aack, wow. I'm used to the parents with insanely high expectations being the ones who are accomplished and expect their kids to have the same kind of success. But being expected to pull your folks' weight is just... yikes. I wish you the best of luck with this, Anon!
