one author used to mention how tall, tan, and toned half my OTP is—the 5’6” 50 year old who walks with a cane and basically never bares any skin except his face and hands, and lives so far north it’s possible to see the northern lights.

OMG, lol, that's great.

I actually just read a fic the other day where one of the characters mentioned having grown up with a lot of brothers. Except we know the canon character just has one sister. The whole time I'd been reading (well, skimming) this fic, I'd been thinking it seemed incredibly original-fiction-y, and then I got to the part about the brothers and felt a bit validated. Because honestly, why would the author change such an insignificant detail for no reason at all? My bet is they write original id-fic, and then swap the names in order to take advantage of the built in readership the fandom gives them. (It's a big fandom and their fic had 434 kudos.)

If their characterizations are as askew as their physical descriptions, maybe the author in your fandom is doing the same?

AYRT—I don’t even remember who the author was because after reading that description I went “huh, I thought this was trending torward generic romance novel, but now I know it is,” and stopped reading their stuff. And yeah, it’s not a huge monster fandom like the MCU or Harry Potter, but it’s also not tiny, so maybe they were publishing their barely-disguised original fic in a fandom they were familiar with.
