This has been bugging me so much. Why don't the makers see it? It's so blatantly racist.

Which is what you get when you try to directly convert an early nineties animated movie into a 2019 live motion picture, duh.

Exactly. Not that Disney is that concerned, tbh. They're definitely in it for the money. There's no compelling artistic reason to make this film and plenty reasons to just quietly let it go, like Song of the South.

Huh. Isn't it the other way around though. I always thought he dressed Abu like himself on purpose? They steal and Abu is trained to distract people. They probably have routines they do to make it look like an act so they blend in with the street performers at the markets.

Maybe for added realism. Very few cultures have traditional clothing where you wear a vest that doesn't close and nothing underneath as regular street wear.
