I agree with this completely-- oh I remember reading about how he designed the under labrynth of the Opera House, and that steel forest.. oh the shivers!

OP of the sentiment if not the secret here and at first I thought you meant the fake forest in the Charles Dance version, but now I’m thinking maybe you meant the cast-iron tree in the torture chamber.

The whole automatic man-trap thing is definitely not a plus in my view, even if it would be a nice door to door salesman/evangelist deterrent. But then having Erik answer the door unmasked would work just as well.

Really I meant both-- I saw the Charles Dance version even before I read the book-- though the Charles Dance version was what inspired me to pick up the book by Gaston LeRoux. I have never been a fan of the actual musical (though I do like the music), but I do love the TV miniseries as well as the book so much
