HA, yes, that's like - the ultimate cherry on the cake of a good relationship - they are HANDY! :D

OP of the comment here (thanks, secret-maker anon!) and I wish I could do small home repairs but my (lack of) hand-eye cordination and ability to clearly picture, say, the proper position of electrical wires means I’m a fucking menace. I can catch spiders and dispose of dead mice and grow and cook my own food and... I once electrocuted myself while grinding coffee.

While I draw the line at resident chump supporters, I’d put up with a lot to not have to pay half my annual wages just to keep my house from disintegrating. I inherited it, which is awesome except for the dead relatives part and the fact that it was built in 1947 and owned ever since by a succession of spit-and-duck-tape repair people, my parents included. The first not-to-code addition was made in 1956 and the latest was when my mom paid some guy to add a bathroom that he plumbed into the outside cleanout, so when everything backs up it overflows through the toilet and shower drain.

Homg!!

Yeah, that is just...a lot to deal with.

My house was built in 1935, but right before we bought it, it got gutted, rewired, and replumbed. Not *expertly*, but nothing's caught on fire or backed up or anything, so yay.

But it's an old house that needs maintenance, and things need fixed like the front porch/steps that were made of untreated wood and were coming apart after a couple of years.

Fortunately, my daughter's bf is pretty handy, so he fixed those, and the toilet whose wax seal got screwed up, and a few other little things that I wasn't able to do (and didn't have the money for).

Good luck with your house! I totally understand not wanting to deal with the MAGA-wearing dipshits who can't stop talking about crap I don't want to talk about, while I'm trapped not saying anything because I don't want my dryer put back together wrong.
