I'm just going off of what I saw from this review (https://youtu.be/e_elq-fEIyk) and hearsay, but...

It seems like this show uses poorly done edgey topics, and attracted people eat up poorly done edgey stuff. As much as I hate the type of neckbeard edgelords this secret refers to, I think that show panders to them. In the same way I don't get invested in the fate of otaku-bait shows because I'm not the audience who enjoys shitty otaku-bait, I can't really get mad when a shitty edgelord show that started off edgey for ~dramaz~ gets even more edgelordy.

I guess what I could get bothered by is the trend of shows deciding that putting rape in shows makes things ~more realistic~, even though I'm certain authors and creators just put that in there for porn.

My opinion is that I didn't want to watch it because if it had rape, it was probably a waste of my time. I enjoy seeing shitty anime/movies get criticized however, so I feel happy seeing that my initial assessment was right.

A 7.74 on MAL is hardly "unenjoyable to most" though and while I get and understand not wanting to watch stuff with rape in it, it's one scene and does not make up the majority of the show. Your rock metaphor kinda sucks.

I read a couple chapters of the manga and while the art was lively and expressive, it didn't hold my interest long. The rape scene was definitely done for shock but only lasted a page, worked for setting the tone, and struck me as no where near as bad as other fan favorites like Beserk. I wasn't interested in watching the anime because it's close to a frame by frame adaptation of the manga.

Yeah after all of the screaming I'd heard about it I was expecting much, much worse. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who has issues with that sort of thing but it was nowhere near as bad as the internet made it sound.

... well, to be fair, the rape in Berserk (If you're referring to Caska) also is much more of a gut-wrencher because by the time the Eclipse happens you've come to know and care about the characters involved.

My opinion is I don't like watching shows with graphic rape scenes, so I guess I'm stuck with parroting. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Kinda sad, really, because it otherwise seemed cool.

I've actually read some on the LN Goblin Slayer is based on and it's not as edgy as people want to pretend it is. The manga is unfortunately a giant pulsing mass of gross fetishism (I'm pretty sure it's working under a rule of 'when in doubt, add women getting sexually brutalized for the good of the male gaze') but the LN is actually a lot less graphic about it compared to both anime and manga. In general I find Goblin Slayer to be an okay fantasy series with a shock opening that made everyone decide that it's just so ~dark~ and ~edgy~ when it's not even close to the level of something like Berserk. There's less graphic rape in this series than in your average episode of GoT.
