Re: What was as good as the hype?

Bodyguard. Well, I hear it was majorly hyped across the pond anyway. In Canada I'd never heard of it until it hit Netflix, but my father and I both voted it Best Show We Watched This Year.

The Shawshank Redemption. Just a really beautiful, nuanced, compassionate film. I'm so glad my friend pushed me to watch it. Between the fact that it has a Western sounding title and the fact that it's a "prison movie," I probably never would have watched it on my own. But it's really the antithesis of what I dislike about most prison movies.

Blade Runner 2049. I'm so happy there's finally a Blade Runner I can love.

The Last Jedi. Finally a Star Wars film that actually hooks me.

FRIENDS. I'd seen an episode here and there, but this year I started watching it from the beginning and I have to say, even though it's dated in some ways, I actually think it deserved to be a beloved as it was. The group dynamic is just so strong, and the development of the characters and their arcs manages to feel really natural most of the time.
