I don't know the source, so I need to ask... is this person male or female? Everything to me says male except the boobs? Or maybe it's just unfortunate coat-highlights and not boobs?

IDK but those definitely look like titties to me

Right? It's very confusing.

You are right to be confused. That series has a whole lot of weird (and, imo, creepy) gender fuckery going on. The wiki basically says that there are types of characters that get (magically?) linked to other characters and physically develop into the opposite sex of the character they're linked to, no matter what gender they actually prefer to identify as (which is apparently what happened in this case - actually identifies as a guy, develops breasts/gets feminised after getting linked to a male character).

So.... that last sentence had me making a face. It was not a nice face. It's like... enforced heteronormacy rather than have ~the gay~? Because if it was a platonic link, it seems like them both being guys wouldn't matter...

More or less, yeah. I only looked into it shortly when in first came across it, thought I found it skeevy and never touched it again so idk about all the details, but that was my impression as well..

Homura is biologically intersex and develops towards the preferences of whoever he bonds to. He identifies as male, so he starts out trying to bond to a straight woman. When he accidentally bonds to the straight male lead, he attempts to murder the scientist who fucked up his life, and when that fails, he sets himself on fire. The protagonists put him out and talk him down. Over the course of the series, he comes to terms with his body and his identity, and by the end, he’s both presenting as male and in a romantic relationship with the male lead (who apparently wasn’t that straight after all.)

I’m not intersex, but I have struggled with my gender identity, so Homura means a lot to me as a character who gets to work through his issues and lay claim to his identity with everything he has.

Okay that explanation is a little less squicky than the one upthread, thank you! Is this a show/novel/manga?

I read the manga. There’s also an anime, but I don’t think it completes the story.

I think it's nice that it's helpful for you but I still find that whole concept hella skeevy.

Since I don’t want to flood you with secrets, have some more hot and spicy Sekirei takes:

It’s way too confusing that the hero Minato and the villain Minaka have such similar names. I keep having to check to make sure I’m not mixing them up.

The hero and the hacker have zero chemistry.

The hero and the wind lady might have had chemistry if she was better utilized. None of her scenes really grabbed me and made me care about her.

Apparently people ship the hero with the ice lady? I don’t see it, if only because her interactions with the rich kid are among the few things that make the rich kid likable.

The hero and his anti-villain roommate actually do have chemistry, but I don’t ship it because she and her girlfriend are already adorable together.

The one character I most want a spin-off with is the rich kid. He seems like he’s in the best position to grow and develop with a fresh character arc. Everyone else has pretty much worked through their issues.

Okay, but what anime is this?
