(Anonymous) 2019-01-08 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)They are boring as hell and hard to follow for the first 66%, and then suddenly, without fail, they capture me entirely. Eventually the characters turn into real people and their interactions have weight. The emotional payoff at the end of his novels is always worth the (large) time investment.
I sound like one of those people who say "it gets good in season 3 I swear" but its true! Doestoevsky is amazing. Crime and Punishment is a little quicker paced and more exciting than TBK. The Adolescent is less dark. Notes from Underground is short and very angsty and different in tone and perspective from a lot of his other stuff. My favorite by him is The Idiot. It is fantastic!!
