I'm fine with immortal or long-lived partner/mortal partner(tbh if I think about I think I have a lot of ships like this) but I get the sadness around that aspect of them so I either headcanon a solution or just don't think about it, lol.

In the case of Bilbo/Thorin the secret I like to think of them meeting up again in Valinor somehow(even though it really doesn't gel with Tolkien lore, screw it, Aule's halls connect ~someway and they get to see each other again in the Undying Lands).
