I'm really wondering about the picture now. I'm very wishy-washy about RPF, myself, but I know how much it sucks to be in a small fandom or love a rare pair. Good luck, OP!

Dear OP, I can relate to your secret so much, because that is pretty much how I feel at the moment. You know real pain, when you end up in a small fandom that has only like four stories on AO3 and just one is about your OTP.

Oh man, yeah, that's the WORST... None of mine are RPF but yeah, nothing like discovering a new thing and getting on AO3, and it's like... two out of five fics feature your favorite character at all.

I remember being in an anime fandom like three years ago and I came on A03 and found not a single story of my OTP so I had to sit down and write the first story for this ship xD

But it was a weird discovery since the tumblr-fandom for this ship was a handful of people (still like half of the fandom or so .... it was one of those very small fandoms for an anime that you either love or hate xD) so I thought that others had already written to the ship.

I guess what amused me the most was, that shortly after I had published my stories there were suddenly stories for this ship O.o

Sometimes all it takes is one person writing the first fic and then everyone who wasn't sure comes out of the woodwork with it.

Which is nice, when you just want to be able to also read some fic, but funny sometimes.

And then that one fic has... questionable writing at best and you're torn about reading it because dear lord it's just not good but it's the only thing there is and beggars can't be choosers and all that.

Luckily this one fic was well written. It was the cutest angst with a happy ending I've read in a long time.

But I know the oppsite too well, since I tend to fall in love with rare and obscure pairings all the time.
Sometimes even the tags used on some stories make me cringe because I can guess what the story will be .__.

And then everyone asks my why I seldom read fanfictions these days

I totes get what you mean, OP. I don't mind some RPF on occasion, have even written some. Mine is also usually obscure fandoms or pairings.

Ugh, yes, I know how you feel. My latest fandom is RPF, I ship A/B hard and C/D somewhat. There's only a small handful of fic...like 3 or 4 of D/E and one of B/F. A/B have the type of dynamic that would make them a juggernaut pairing in a large fictional fandom and they're super popular on social media, so it honestly kind of confuses me that there's no fic.

I have that problem in every RPF ship I go for. And if I ever get my wish that other people start writing it too, all the work I put in while no one else I knew was doing it, gets ignored.

Guy from somewhat small fandom makes appearance on popular show. Someone writes a fic based on the show, their story, despite not being that great, gets more hits, kudos and certainly way more comments, than all the other fics about that guy *combined* (not just my fics, everyone else's fics combined).
