108 I have the boxset, and I watched it like four years ago, or whenever it was fairly new. But unlike all the other female fans I never shipped it. The fact that there's slash for this series just seems wrong.

142 Well, thanks to Legend of Galactic Heroes I no longer have a social life. And whenever I do have to leave the house to spend time with someone, all I can think about is that fucking show, and how much I want to watch the next episode when I get home.
I'm not always like this, though, just some of the time. When I'm manic, basically.

148 It is inspiring in the sense that a single person could make their own story be heard, but actually, I don't think Shinkai is a bad artist. He's just bad at drawing people. He works wonder with color in a way few others in animation do these days, he does wonderful landscapes/backgrounds, and he's not bad at mechanical design. He just needs to work with a seperate character designer.
And for an example of something of his that looks a lot better and also tells a great love story, watch 5 Centimeters Per Second.

108. The miniseries is based off of a book. I say "based off of" because the writers took many creative liberties in portraying the characters these men were based off of.

Yeah, I know all about Stephen Ambrose (and how he got charged with plagiarism, since, like most public historians, he got graduate students/interns to do all his research for him). I still think it's weird to ship real people, and kind of wrong to ship those who served in battle. I mean, I'm not going to rail against it, those are just my personal misgivings.

I seperate the characters portrayed in the miniseries from the real guys (I think of the two as totally different entities, and hold the real guys in the highest respect).

I wish I could find someone else who would watch this show with me! Even my husband won't touch it because it's so long (plus he's probably tired of hearing me tell him all about it). It's hard enough finding other fans online. It's just not a passive watch like most other anime out there.

Oddly enough if it were a live action series, I think my dad would watch it.

Ever been to 4chan's /a/? It's pretty popular there. Won't find people to watch it with you, but you should be able to start some threads on what just happened in episode X.

Yeah, they talk about it on /m/ from time to time but I try to avoid those threads, especially after a certain character's death was spoiled for me. I'll check it out later.

And speaking as someone who's had a lot of friends who watch anime over the years, there's just something I miss about watching a series with other people in the room.

108 I agree somewhat. I've never been squicked by RPS, but it did always seem wrong when I was a part of this fandom. I don't know if the OP is talking about fanfic, but I don't remember ever seeing any a few years ago.

I think because most RPS shipping occurs between entertainers, and these guys didn't choose to lead a public life or to necessarily be held in high regard for what they did (or immortalized on an HBO miniseries), all of that just happened because they were willing to tell their stories to an historian. So in a way I don't feel like it's right, or fair to their families or whatever. But RPS shipping when it's like, actors, is fine with me because they chose a public profession in the first place.
