106. Why should we be "open minded" about something as ridiculous and absurd as "I can not stand to play a female character?" It's stupid. And it's not exactly as arbitrary as if you refused to play games in which the main character has green hair, so yeah, I'd definitely say sexist attitudes are the basis.

106. Not necessarily. I might have interpreted the secret wrong, but from what I gathered, the OP just meant that she didn't want to play as female characters simply because she is female, and wanted to escape into a fantasy world where she could play as male characters.

I mean, don't get me wrong. It's a silly/stupid/word-of-choice secret, and she'll obviously be missing out on a lot of good games.

But I don't see anything inherently sexist about wanting to 'play pretend' only as male characters. The poster even said herself that she has nothing against female protagonists, she just doesn't wish to play as them. Isn't escaping from the real world the point of things like video games?

A lot of people say they have no problem with female protagonists. It doesn't really mean much. See: "But I have gay friends!"

Why do you need to be a boy to escape? I don't get it. Maybe it isn't sexist, but it's definitely silly.

To be fair, that was a pretty poor example on my part. She could be going for a crutch to make herself look better, but she might not be. Who knows.

Well, I definitely don't understand it either, and it is silly in the highest degree. I'm sure there are also other people who have set ideas about what they expect from their fantasy roleplaying. But the secret as I read it didn't really imply that female characters were inferior to male characters, so I can't exactly call judgment on it in the same way as I could for a secret saying 'All female characters in videogames suck.'
