I really would like moderators IN the fandom for the main communities? yes.
But please, stop. How could you be out of it and hate the person in? If you are out (which means that you don't read the posts, the discussions, the fan fictions, etc...) you could not know all the wonderful persons who came after you left. All the great discussion! The masterpieces written.
What is so different between now and then (2003-2004 I suppose)?

There wasn't much fanfic back then, and I really liked that about the fandom. I've been in fandoms with fic, and I have nothing against fic, but when BoB fandom started, when some of the soldiers actively read our posts and commented on them, I can't imagine how they would have reacted to the slash, the fan art.
And then there are the "historians" I've encountered in the new fandom, the ones who swear they know every detail of the book, the film, and general war history, but don't even know that Camp Toccoa is in Georgia. I don't think you need to be a history buff to enjoy Band of Brothers, but it is bullshit to act superior about your knowledge when you're wrong half the time.
Perhaps I'm wrong to be so general about people. I don't imagine that I would hate everyone in the new fandom. My experiences with the people I have met completely turned me off to ever being a part of it again.

They are handsome, but there are more charming show on this side. I think that what people really like is the mixer of attractiveness-heroic-epic-existential problem-etc...

it's happened? btw this seems linked about "OMG they are real people"-problem. No, I never thought about it, so sorry, I couldn't understand you. I read and talk about fictional persons :(

And I'm not generally RPS in terms of actors who've put themselves out there and become famous through their own work.
